Human Factors & Systems Lead
Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), responsible for operating, maintaining, and transforming part of Victoria’s rail network, are seeking a Human Factors & Systems Integration Lead. This role is an ongoing permanent opportunity with MTM. We are looking for a trusted advisor to support the delivery of change across our business, helping to optimise safety and performance outcomes for Metro’s people. Good stakeholder engagement will be critical to facilitate, advocate and demonstrate the value of HF and systems thinking.
About the Role
The Human Factors & Systems Integration Lead will lead the HF integration during change management activities from delivery through to post-implementation for the MTM business. Reporting directly to the Manager HF Integration & Change, the role will support the operating and maintenance parts of the business in meeting their obligations with respect to human factors integration and assurance for franchise-level (non-Project Division) change activities. This position will support the business in taking a systems approach to the identification and management of safety risks influenced by human performance. The role will also contribute to continuous improvement and organisational learning through the capture and management of human factors requirements and the evaluation of HF outcomes post-implementation of change.
Key Areas of Responsibility

- Provide analysis and advice to the delivery and post-implementation stages (Gates 3 - 6) of project and change activities and network strategy reviews, with a focus on the integration of human factors and systems thinking.
- Ensure HF impacts and system-level change impacts are captured and integrated into design decision-making and provide advocacy for the value of HF in informing design and change implementation.
- Develop guidance and tools to support HF integration activities with a focus on helping to reduce low-level HF effort where appropriate.
- Manage, verify and validate HF requirements in line with a systems integration and systems engineering approach.
- Ensure technical input is provided to hazard analyses, risk assessment and design, options analyses, user-reference groups and other technical working groups in order to inform design activities relating to HFI and system-level change.
- Monitor, manage and advise on HF priorities based on the outputs of HF analyses, and on business critical and material risks.
- Identify and manage HF issues.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders on HF and systems integration activities.
- Develop and conduct training and awareness activities related to HF, systems integration and change activities, as defined within the HFI and MoC procedures.
- Support the Manager HF Integration & Change to deliver the HF strategy for the MTM business.
- Advocate for good HF practice and support continuous improvement initiatives for improving HFI across the business.
