The Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) is a transformational public transport project that will bring more trains to your suburb and reduce travel times by running the busy Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury lines through a new tunnel. By untangling the City Loop, more trains can run more often across Melbourne.

We’ve finished digging twin 9km tunnels, and construction is underway on 5 new stations and testing of the new High Capacity Signalling system that will enable turn-up-and-go services.

The Role

As a Rail Safety Manager you’ll oversee and advise on rail safety legislation and regulations to ensure safe delivery of the project. You’ll provide support and lead a team to provide Safe Working and Worksite Protection to support projects across Metro. You will represent Metro during the dynamic testing phase of the project.

This role is fulltime, fixed term.As an MTM employee, you will have access to free travel along the network. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and clarification on Safe Working Practices
  • Assist in investigations of Rail Safety incidents and implement any actions required
  • Participate in the planning, delivery and best practices of upcoming and current Occupations.
  • Conduct Rail Safety Compliance inspections and investigations on behalf of the RTO
  • Ensure all sites are compliant with the Rail Safety National Law

About You

  • Extensive experience within the Rail industry or relevant experience
  • Has a legal understanding around OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) and RSNL (Rail Safety National Law)
  • Is an experienced leader that can mentor and develop their team
  • Communicates with influence with a range of different stakeholders whilst managing safety on complex construction projects
  • Hold theory 3.3 safe working Theory (Track Force Protection Coordinator)
  • Have a registered RIW (Rail Industry Worker)
  • Be willing to obtain a CAT 3 Medical (or above)
  • Has qualifications in a Cert IV in Occupational Health and Safety, Cert IV in Training and Assessment Auditor qualification or above
  • Has experience leading ICAM investigations
  • Holds a valid White card
