We are currently looking for a Risk & Systems Safety Assurance Manager to work within MTM Melbourne Airport Rail portfolio to support the development and implementation of Melbourne Airport Project (MAR) Assurance Program to ensure safe the integration and acceptance of MAR systems.

The preferred candidate will be MTM System Safety Assurance SME within the IPAS team to development and review of systems assurance requirements (e.g., project Assurance Case Reports (ACRs), Stage Gate Review Reports, Safety Assurance Statements & SFAIRP arguments and Safety Cost Benefit Analysis), specifications and systems engineering solutions, and design and management plans reviews to ensure compliance with applicable MAR contract obligations, safety regulations and MTM’s SMS.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity. As an MTM employee, you will have access to free travel along the network.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • You will coordinate and support the review of formal, technical systems safety assurance outputs for MAR and Work Package Stage Gates, MTM Change Control Board (CCB), Risk Acceptance Working Group (RAWG), RPV Assurance Control Board (ACB) and MAR Management of Change (MoC) submissions for example to confirm that all CCB entry and exit criteria are met, with any carry-over, open issues and in conjunction with the MAR Assurance Governance Manager, that technical risks are being properly agreed, documented, and assigned/handed over throughout project phases as applied on MAR.
  • Develop and maintain the MAR Hazard Log within Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) (DOORS), including structure and content.
  • Oversee, coordinate and/or produce and maintain systems assurance management plans under the MAR Project Management Plan; including, Systems Safety Assurance Management Plan and input to supporting plans such as the RAM Management Plan or Human Factors Integration Plan
  • Provide systems assurance support as required to the IPAS team including the representation of MTM’s interest in systems assurance matters and the delivery of the Engineering and Operational Safety Cases and participate in Working groups for Melbourne Airport Rail.
  • Co-ordinate and undertake (as required) compliance and reporting audits on the basis of targeted risk assessments for mission critical issues on behalf of the Head of Assurance across Critical Design, Dynamic Testing, Trial Operations and Day 1 Operations.

About You

  • The successful candidate will have a Tertiary qualification in Systems or Safety Engineering or equivalent
  • Industry vocational certification e.g. from a recognised Engineering body or equivalent
  • Technical/engineering management experience in railway operations, maintenance or similar with a demonstrated understanding of how railway activities are integrated within an organisation.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working in safety assurance roles
  • Experience in developing and implementing progressive assurance strategies and delivering Safety Cases for complex systems
  • Ability to participate in technical investigations, audits and risk assessments
  • Possess organising, analytical, evaluative and decision-making skills
  • Strong stakeholder management experience to work collaboratively and build strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong report writing, analytical ability and critical thinking
