Why Join Metro?
Our Purpose
We Move Melbourne.
Our Vision
Shaping our future to be a world-class railway for Melbourne.
Our Values and Behaviours
At the core of everything we do are our values and behaviours of Zero harm, Caring, One Team, Dependable and Make a Difference.
Culture thrives when people really live it. We set standards for how we define ourselves, and then we set goals for how we want to grow. Our people not only help us define those principles, but they also live those values.

Diversity & Inclusion at Metro
At Metro, we want to reflect the community that we serve. This means committing to a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
In the last 10 years, we’ve more than doubled the number of women at Metro.
We want to create a diverse team and that means being a strong advocate for initiatives that encourage more women to join; it also means listening to women on the team about how to make their work experience better and retain their expertise.
It is important to point out that women at Metro are contributing to all areas of the business and busting the myth that careers in rail are just for men.
In 2020 year, 74 per cent of our roles were filled by women. In 2009, there were 26 female train drivers working for Metro Trains – and in 2023 there are more than 550.
Keeping track of these targets, celebrating positive outcomes and pushing for more, is part of Metro continuing on its inclusive future.
Corporate Responsibility
Metro’s rail network is closely linked with the lives of millions of people across Melbourne. We work to have a positive community impact in and around the network through a range of different programs.
These programs include an annual community grants round, as well as support for fundraising efforts at our stations. We partner with organisations such as The Fitzroy Stars Football & Netball Club and Keep Victoria Beautiful, who manages the Stationeers program designed to beautify station gardens. We also have Metro fundraising partnerships with Melbourne City Mission and Lifeline and provide in-kind support to Travellers Aid.
