The role

The GIS Specialist is responsible for the provision of specialist geospatial, mapping and data governance services in support of the efficient, accurate and timely recording, maintenance and provision of asset information.

Other responsibilities include providing technical and operational leadership across the GIS team and the broader business including user training, project support, liaison with IT, and asset data integrity management to a high professional standard.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Successfully and proactively manage key stakeholder relationships through direct liaison with key business personnel, particularly within Asset Management, Service Delivery, Projects and Customer Service teams
  • Lead the provision of specialist GIS data management, mapping, modelling and analysis activities to support the operational, planning, project and strategic needs of the business
  • Lead the management of the network model and ensure that system integrations and record repositories are appropriately updated, and manage relationships to the GIS
  • Ensure Asset & Locational data quality is maintained and fit for purpose across GIS and Enterprise Resource Planning systems (SAP)
  • Interface with IT Asset Applications team to deliver ongoing technology improvements to strengthen the GIS Capability, specifically providing direct technical support for the scoping, development & testing of system enhancements

About you:

  • Comprehensive understanding of GIS & asset management systems in the utility industry
  • Working knowledge of geospatial network models, preferably within Smallworld GIS environment
  • Experience across varying forms of spatial analysis, the development of map products, and spatial/asset reporting
  • Experience in reading and interpreting technical drawings including engineering & survey plans
  • Sound cartographic, drafting and spatial reasoning skills
  • Experience in development of specifications, procedures and work instructions for geospatial systems
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage conflicting priorities
