We are currently seeking an experienced and driven individual, who would be keen to further develop their career in fire testing within a large multi-faceted organisation, to join our team in North Ryde!
CSIRO Fire Testing services combines expertise and full-scale fire test capabilities to simulate a wide range of fire scenarios, providing a unique fire research, consulting and testing facility to industry. Registered by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA), our testing facilities are designed and equipped to conduct a wide range of fire tests based on Australian, international and other standards. The group also provides services in interpretation of results, assessing conformity with specification and standards, research & development, and construction in bushfire-prone areas.
In this multi-faceted role as a ‘Fire Resistance Laboratory Manager’, you will play a key leadership and technical role in providing fire resistance testing services to the building, manufacturing and infrastructure sector. While the primary focus of your work will be to efficiently manage, coordinate and deliver fire testing services relating to building products and systems in accordance with the regulatory standards, an important part of your role will also include providing day-to-day leadership to staff and operational activities in the team. Therefore, your strong domain expertise, and well-developed communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills will be critical to succeed in this position.

Your duties will include:
- Operating independently, using sound judgement when providing testing services within the scope the laboratory accreditation and capability.
- Providing testing services delivered through written reports relating the fire protection materials and systems for the purpose of demonstrating compliance with the Deemed to Satisfy provisions of the BCA as well as international codes and regulations.
- Liaising with the Fire Assessment and Reaction to Fire teams where client’s needs or projects span other teams within the laboratory.
- Managing and coordinating project enquiries and project delivery outcomes and timeframes within budget expectations.
- Developing a positive team working environment characterised by excellence, creativity, innovation and flexibility.
- Supporting the Group Leader in the management of financial resources, people, infrastructure and other assets to ensure their effective and efficient use.
- Other duties as required.

Salary: AU$121K – AU$142K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
- Relevant trade certificate/diploma/bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Engineering fields such as Structural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong communication skills and writing of detailed technical reports for commercial clients.
- Track record creating and fostering cooperation within a team environment and between teams.
- Relevant knowledge of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) Deemed to Satisfy provisions relating to the fire resistance of building elements and systems.
- Relevant knowledge of Australian and International fire testing standards, assessment guidelines and related fire design standards.
- Project management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to operate in commercial environments subjected to change and external constraints.
- Demonstrated understanding with OH&S regulation and its application to a fire test laboratory.
- Experience working with ISO 9000/ISO17025 management systems.
