About the role

With over 2500 retail locations around the country, our property team looks after one of the most dynamic portfolios in Australia. Working with teams across the business, we provide a range of services from site acquisition, leasing and renewals, through to development, construction, and asset management. What you’ll be doing

As our new Retail Leasing Manager, you will partner with varied senior stakeholders, and you will be accountable for the delivery of the property objectives for Coles Supermarkets with a focus on growing the network in Victoria. This exciting role will see you source and secure new sites which will require you to review the network plan, go out to the market, review sites, and engage with a variety of external partners. You will be a pivotal player in the Coles property team.

This will be a fast-paced position where you will need to fully understand the financial levers critical in determining the viability and risk profile of each property project. A strong background in negotiation and interpretation of complex contracts and agreements will be essential for the success in this role. Coupled with a proven in-depth knowledge of the retail property landscape in the Melbourne area.

Other ways you can have an impact will see you:

  • Identify, negotiate, secure, and obtain management and board approvals for new and replacement stores
  • Implement strategies to secure locations where lease tenure is at risk
  • Prepare board reports, presentations, and meeting materials
  • Lead and assist the property liquor team in the delivery of new stores, acquisitions, store extensions, lease renewals and management of the property portfolio
  • Lateral thinker, problem solver and the ability to approve challenges with a solution mindset and take appropriate action
  • Liaise and negotiate with landlords to secure favourable liquor outcomes
  • Assist in the development of the property strategy for the existing network and entering new markets

Good things you’ll need

  • Proven experience in retail leasing; management of the process from negotiation to execution either on the landlord or retail side
  • Previous commercial property experience with in-depth knowledge of the retail property market
  • Sound financial knowledge of deal structures with the ability to negotiate and interpret complex contracts and agreements
  • Developed communication, influencing and interpersonal skills to build rapport and trusted relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work autonomously and be accountable for your activity- reporting and targets
