What progress will you make?

Our Public Affairs team works to enhance and protect the reputation of Citi, its business and its brand across the world through direct and indirect communications with our various stakeholders, including consumers, clients, investors, government officials and the media. The team is organized in the following areas: communications; community investing and development; community reinvestment act (CRA) regulatory group; executive services; global brand; global government affairs and sustainability.

We’re currently looking for a high calibre professional to join our team as an experienced internal and external communications professional to work in Citi’s Sydney office, reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs for Australia and New Zealand. The Head of Corporate Communications is responsible for media relations, issues management employee communications strategy and for Citi and its businesses in Australia and New Zealand.

The position currently has one direct report and manages relationships with key internal stakeholders.

This is a Parental leave contract until May 2024.

In this role, you’ll be expected to:

  • Manage proactive positioning of Citi, its strategy and growth narrative in mainstream or trade media, complemented by social media. Includes ensuring comms policies and guidelines regarding public appearances are followed.
  • Oversee issues and crises management on negative/critical reputational issues. Involves taking a holistic approach towards ensuring consistent messaging for all stakeholders including employees, clients, shareholders and regulators.
  • Devise internal communications strategies and plans to help drive the strategic, operational and cultural values of Citi Australia with the engagement of executives and employees
  • Create and edit content for a variety of channels that may include e-mail, Intranet, print, presentation, video or digital.
  • Work with senior executives and business managers to research content ideas and drive proactive promotion of wins across the franchise.
  • Counsel senior management on effective internal communications; use creativity to incorporate employee communications considerations into planning of major initiatives, events and announcements.
  • Manage and support launch of new communications initiatives and programs; maintain and improve existing programs
  • Work closely with the rest of the Corporate Affairs team locally and globally on major initiatives and projects
  • Other duties, projects and roles as assigned which could include media relations, social media, events and citizenship.

There is a strong focus on providing on communication advisory support for senior management which requires being comfortable working with the most senior levels of management.

As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:

  • A minimum of 10 years Corporate Affairs experience with a minimum 5 in Financial Services
  • Demonstrated experience in internal communications and media strategies in complex environments
  • Demonstrated experience in issues management
  • Ability to think strategically to deliver communications to a range of stakeholders
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Excellent organisational capabilities
  • Attention to detail
  • The ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong team player
  • Ability to develop internal networks
  • Bachelor’s/University degree
