Perth City Square is home to BHP Iron Ore’s state-of-the-art Integrated Remote Operations Centre (IROC). IROC is a well-established state-of-the-art control operations facility operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using advanced, real-time technology to enable visibility and control, across the entire Iron Ore supply chain. Working collaboratively with our mining operations we strive to contribute and continuously improve safety and performance outcomes of our business.

About the Role


The IROC New to Industry Program provides you with hands on experience and learning within our IROC Control Teams over a 12 month period. As a Controller you take ownership for the safety of our people in the field, achieving production targets, by enabling the effective operation of day-to-day job specific requirements.


This program provides the participants with the opportunity to rotate through the Control and Scheduling departments including:

  • Autonomous Drill Control
  • Conventional Mine Control
  • Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) Control
  • Fixed Plant Control
  • Rail Control
  • Port Control
  • Supply Chain Scheduling


There are both full time and part time opportunities available within the program. Full time participants would be employed on our Lifestyle roster and part time participants would work a variation of this.


About You


We are eager to connect with enthusiastic, motivated, passionate and adaptable people that are keen to learn new skills and embark on a career within the mining industry.


Experience in a control room environment or in a mining related industry is NOT essential as we are looking to encourage individuals from all backgrounds. Training will be provided, developing you to be successful in these roles.


To be successful in this role, it is critical that you possess:

  • An overriding commitment to safety and BHP charter values.
  • Be able to identify risks and be risk mitigation focused.
  • Motivation to learn and develop new skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • The ability to foster a team environment and work towards achieving team outcomes and goals.
  • Ability to adapt to change and work autonomously in fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge
