About BMA
BMA is Australia’s largest coal producer and supplier of seaborne metallurgical coal. BMA is owned 50:50 by BHP and Mitsubishi Development. BMA operates seven Bowen Basin mines (Goonyella Riverside, Broadmeadow, Daunia, Peak Downs, Saraji, Blackwater and Caval Ridge) and owns and operates the Hay Point Coal Terminal near Mackay.
The Broadmeadow mine is an underground coal mine in the Bowen Basin Region of Queensland, 25 kilometres from the town of Moranbah. The Broadmeadows mine produces medium volatile hard coking coal that is exported to the Middle East, Asia, South America, South Africa, Europe, Japan and India.
About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager, this is a role with a significant remit to oversee a high performing team supporting the management and control of the Broadmeadow Underground Coal mine.
This role will see you provide leadership and functional expertise in a broad range of areas including ventilation, contractor management, compliance and emergency response and build a cohesive group through deep, foundational team development.
This role is based at our Broadmeadow Mine site and can be offered on a Monday-Friday residential or flexible commute basis.
In this role you will:
- Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader by engaging, developing and coaching your team whilst ensuring an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
- Build business partnerships and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders internal and external to the business
- Positively shape culture in alignment with the BHP Charter Values
- Contribute to the preparation of the inputs to form the mining plan and budget
- Build cross-functional relationships with the Production and Maintenance teams to support the delivery of safe production
- Lead process improvement initiatives to support customer group by leveraging BOS practices
- Taking responsibility for identifying and resolving systemic issues, and for assessing the potential impact on production, plant and equipment
About You
- Mining production and operational experience
- Degree qualification in Mining Engineering or an aligned discipline
- QLD First class mine manager certificate of competency (underground coal mines) is required
- Coal experience is highly preferable
- Foundational leadership experience and engagement of teams that support high quality and engaged delivery
- Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies with financial and commercial acumen
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to support cross-departmental engagement and effective communication throughout multiple levels of the business
- The ability to engage and find positive outcomes with internal and external stakeholders
