About the Role

This position sits within the Production Scheduling team that falls under the wider IPRO department. The Production Scheduling team is responsible for generating the 2-Years to Weekly mine schedules as well as the key mine designs and projects that enable their successful execution. Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Scheduling and Integration, the Senior Mining Engineer will play an integral role by:

  • Mentor and lead the mine planners and schedulers towards industry best practices by working closely with key internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment between all the multiple planning horizons.
  • Support and deliver internal Production Scheduling training programs, including the new to the industry training platform.
  • Support the mine planning the governance process by developing, updating and controlling the mine planning standards, procedures, and the work instructions required to deliver high quality Weekly, 3 Month Schedule, Tactical Plans.
  • Support mine productivity investigations / deep dives undertaken by the Integration team.
  • Support the rollout of new applications and technology on site as part of the technology deployment program.
  • Proactively identify improvement initiatives across our operations in coordination with the Principal Engineer, as well as leading high value mine planning project work.

About IPRO

BHP Western Australia Iron Ore’s Integrated Production and Remote Operations (IPRO) team manages the Iron Ore supply chain via scheduling, forecasting, deviation management, controlling and inventory accounting across mine, rail and port operations. With an over-arching focus on safety, the IPRO team brings dedication, innovation and values to execute and improve productivity, safety and environmental impact.

About You

We have a strong focus on finding individuals with the right values, leadership capability, and communication skills. Your interpersonal skills will foster strong working relationships across our Mining, Survey, HSEC, Geoscience, and Resource Engineering teams. In addition to demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude. The ability to communicate effectively across disciplines, departments and organisational levels to create buy-in and influence outcomes will be highly regarded.

Desirable skills include:

  • A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (or related discipline) is preferred
  • Experience in short to medium term mine scheduling and planning (weekly to 2Yr Planning)
  • Experience in a large-scale open pit mining operation preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of mine planning and scheduling software Alastri
  • Passion for mentoring others and seeking out industry leading solutions
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills are required to influence stakeholders in the delivery of positive business outcomes

Location

You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including quiet rooms, breakout spaces and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.

This role also requires a flexible FIFO roster to deliver training and support on site.
