About the Role

As a UI UX Designer, you will play a key role supporting Digital Factory projects that fundamentally change BHP’s performance across safety, productivity and people performance. The Digital Factory is BHP’s approach to rapid design and development of digital products (software-focused, minimal or no hardware) that provide machine learning and model-based solutions to operational challenges that are currently being addressed through manual methods.


The work:
The UI / UX Designer is a fundamental role in helping to develop user-centric solutions that directly complement the technical back-ends of the solutions. BHP traditionally deals with dense, difficult software that is a challenge for users to naturally understand – the UI / UX Designer will be critical in changing this experience. Contributes to enhancing user experience by improving the usability, accessibility and desirability of a product.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Design and deliver elegant and delightful product experiences as part of a cross-functional digital team
  • Interview users to gain an understanding of their needs and behaviours and perceptions
  • Work with Product Owners to define both long and short-term vision and roadmap for digital solutions
  • Articulate proposed design and key decisions with Product Owners, product team and customers
  • Define the visual style and position relative to design guidelines
  • Produce and review wireframes and storyboards for digital solutions
  • Build prototypes and design tests to validate designs based on customer needs, requirements and behaviours
  • Tracks user experience metrics and reports on the success of UX improvements

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong experience in software design and development using the Agile scrum delivery framework within a high velocity delivery environment
  • Excellent communications skills – both with customer and product teams
  • Experience in User Research, usability testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, interviews, and questionnaires, and translating findings into product design specifications
  • Demonstrated background in producing high fidelity designs along with web / front-end development team
  • Experience using UI / UX design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe or similar
  • Has a strong sense of ownership and proactively advocates for the end user.
  • Collaborative, curious, empathetic, open-minded, and innovative
