About the Role

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership and supervision of Mine Control personnel for the Mine Operations at Olympic Dam. This role is accountable for delivering excellence with respect to fixed plant control and operation of control systems via a highly skilled team. Maintaining process control at Olympic Dam to ensure safety, stability and productivity is a core accountability of this role.

This role requires interpersonal and leaderships skills to support collaboration with a vast number of stakeholders within the Operations/Maintenance and Functional teams. A strong focus on culture and facilitating the success of others is required with a relentless selflessness toward the betterment of the team.

This opportunity is based at Olympic Dam, South Australia and will be offered as residential or 5/2, 4/3 FIFO (ex-Adelaide) roster. Strong collaboration with Mining, Maintenance, Technology, Instrumentation and Process Safety personnel will be required to maximize mine control performance.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and supervise the Control Room Operators to support improved fixed plant control performance.
  • Create and continuously build a culture supporting the front line that is safe and safe to speak up whilst being productivity driven.
  • Develop, maintain and facilitate routines and performance metrics for visualising control performance.
  • Monitor control execution performance and manage team to Control Operations standards and KPIs.
  • Ensure all areas are supported with appropriately trained controllers, providing early visibility to Production/Maintenance teams.
  • Provide guidance on operating philosophy of operational plant for Operation and Maintenance teams, whilst ensuring the voice of the Control Room is heard.
  • Ensure Fixed Plant Operations are run as per plan and operating methodologies, supported by Mine Planning and Production teams.
  • Support team to maintain process within defined safe operating parameters and safe operating windows, reporting and investigating all process excursions.
  • Support team to maintain shift activities and downtime data capture and
  • Ensure training framework, content and delivery is appropriate to verify competency.
  • Build cross-functional relationships with the Operational sub-functions to support operations and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with different mining departments and contractors to support mine operations.

About You

Our successful candidates will hold Degree Qualifications in either Engineering or equivalent professional experience with related training preferably in functional safety.

Together with the following experience & technical competencies:

  • Previous exposure to the mining and minerals processing industries in a similar role is preferable.
  • Relevant supervisor experience and/or a keen desire to develop as a supervisor.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and mentor a team
  • Understanding of BHP people management systems would be advantageous.
  • Proven ability to motivate others and influence behaviours
  • Ability to operate at multiple levels and across disciplines.
