We currently have an exciting opportunity as a System Technical Authority within our Battlespace Integrated Solutions working for our key project Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN), delivering a state-of-the-art defence system that provides wide-area surveillance at ranges of 1,000 to 3,000 kilometres. The location of this role is flexible, can be located either in Adelaide or Melbourne.

Your new role:
Reporting to the JORN Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Engineering teams to deliver high quality, safe and conforming products. Leveraging off your established team members, you will use your extensive experience to assure compliance and engineering governance of the project outputs.

More specifically, you will:

  • Perform engineering design assurance and approval across the delegated areas of JORN
  • Oversee, monitor and challenge on risk related matters and involves reviewing development activities and outputs to confirm their effectiveness and identify improvements
  • Build trusted relationships with Commonwealth of Australia customer representatives
  • Have a strong focus on the product quality, ensuring the product is fit for purpose
  • Influence the development standards and methods of the product
  • Increase your knowledge of and apply engineering judgement with OTHR and High Frequency systems technology and upgrades
  • Manage the tactical and strategic work priorities for the functions and work collaboratively with wider engineering function to deliver their wider goals
  • Mentor, teach and guide engineering teams with different levels of experience and support the team competency assessment

About you:

  • Degree qualification in engineering or chartered professional engineer status or ability and commitment to obtain
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering management and leadership and exposure working in a defence environment is desirable
  • Ability to negotiate with and influence stakeholders in a way which generates business benefit whilst maintaining key relationships whilst balancing conflicting priorities to deliver against customer and business requirements
  • Ability to use and adapt written and verbal communication skills to suit a variety of difference audiences
  • Excellent communication skills in order to negotiate with others, often at a senior level, as well as the ability to motivate and influence individuals and teams across a number of areas
  • In-depth analysis with interpretative thinking required to define problems and develop innovative solutions based off of information received from a team of professionals
  • Broad experience across a number of engineering disciplines
