About the Role
Transformation of the energy sector is well underway in Australia as investment in renewable energy rapidly increases.
As Manager, Distribution Network Strategy and Planning, you will be accountable for strengthening our regulated electricity and gas distribution networks by investing efficiently to create resilient, reliable, and safe networks for our customer’s future energy needs.
In this role, you will manage a team of talented and highly engaged professionals that lead the development of our distribution networks to cater for unprecedented growth in renewable energy connections.
This role entails a variety of tasks to help AusNet plan for a new energy future considering macro trends in the energy sector and the impacts of climate change.
You will lead the development of significant investment programs, plans and proposals that underpin our regulatory submissions for the regulated ED & G distribution networks, including network augmentation, major infrastructure rebuilds, safety and compliance programs and DER enablement.
This role will report to the General Manager, Network Strategy and Planning with a base location at Southbank, Victoria. We support flexible working practices in a truly hybrid workplace.
What you will deliver
- Ensure our network plans economically meet customer growth (capacity), quality and reliability expectations
- Ensure timely support of new generator and load connection applications for our customers
- Implement Probabilistic Planning criteria to determine economic solutions to emerging network constraints
- Deliver EDPR and GAAR technical inputs on time and to required quality
- Develop strategies and identify opportunities that maximise the utilisation of our regulated Electricity Distribution and Gas networks (e.g. increasing load and generation connections)
- Maintain effective relationship with customers and key stakeholders, including AEMO, DELWP, ESV, ESC.
- Develop and publish periodic planning reports as required under our regulatory obligations, including DAPR, TCPR, DLF, Voltage Compliance and RIN inputs
- Achieve and maintain power quality compliance to the Electricity Distribution Code
- Maintain network capacitance within REFCL compliance limits
- Develop business cases to support network investment decisions and the timely delivery of the works program
- Develop Regulatory Investment Tests (RITs) for distribution augmentation and substation major rebuild projects as required
What we like about you
- Extensive experience in a strategic planning role within Energy Networks and/or the renewable energy industry
- Broad understanding of delivering meaningful Electricity Distribution and Gas planning with sustainability and scalability in mind.
- Well versed and a keen interest in macro trends in the energy sector including the impacts of climate change
- High level of consulting, influencing interpersonal and communication skills at senior levels
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and lead initiatives to successfully deliver business outcomes – especially with Energy Regulators.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, coach, mentor and support team to achieve targets
- Successfully demonstrates strategic leadership accountabilities
- Tertiary qualifications in Commercial/Engineering disciplines
