Reporting to the Senior Engineer, the Engineer/Engineering Officer will have an essential role in supporting a safe, reliable, sustainable and affordable network for our customers. You will be based in our Control & Protection Engineering Lab at Silverwater and your key responsibilities will include:

• Evaluating new secondary systems equipment for use on Ausgrid’s distribution network

• Testing Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) to ensure they meet Ausgrid’s technical requirements and function as desired

• Investigating equipment failures and recommending solutions in accordance with Asset Management principles

• Investigating new secondary systems technologies and assessing their value for Ausgrid’s network

• Providing equipment support for field technicians and engineers

What we are looking for

You bring with you demonstrated understanding of electrical power system fundamentals and a commitment to safe work practises in a lab environment. Our Engineer/Engineering Officer will have previous experience with standards such as DNP3 and IEC 61850, particularly in the electrical power industry.

To be successful, you will have:

• At least one of the following:

  • Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering (or a relevant engineering discipline), or

  • Engineering Degree in a relevant discipline giving entitlement to full membership of Engineers Australia

• Class C drivers licence

• Experience with maintaining, designing and/or configuring secondary systems including protection relays, ethernet networks, SCADA equipment, electronic monitoring devices and/or communications equipment.

• Ability to troubleshoot issues and solve problems with electronic equipment and PC software

• Ability to propose secondary systems solutions which are cost effective, timely and pragmatic

• Excellent communication skills, particularly in writing technical documentation (e.g., technical procedures used by technicians)
