Fabrication Boilermaker

The Maintenance Department at ASC based in Osborne, SA are seeking Fabrication Boilermakers. Working within a dedicated team focused on supporting the Collins Class Submarine maintenance (CCSM) program. Reporting to the Fabrication & Piping Trade Manager at ASC North, you will maintain plant, buildings and equipment to maximise uptime and minimise disruption to maintenance. This requires a strong commitment to safety, good communication skills, and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
Required skills and experience
To be considered for this Permanent, full time opportunity you must ideally display the following Competencies:
- Eligible for Department of Defence Security Clearance; includes Australian Citizenship.
- Indentured Apprenticeship with a background in Boiler making similar preferably with a post trade certificate.
- Demonstrated expertise in reading and interpreting structural drawings
- A sound knowledge of varied fabrication and trade related techniques.
- Basic computer operating skills.
- Understanding of MMAW / GTAW
- Demonstrated expertise in ensuring quality and high technical standards.
- Ideally a Demonstrated experience in the fabrication / plate work and large complex structures. Heavy Engineering experience will also be looked upon favourably.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of all types of fabrication and associated welding processes and their applications.
- Demonstrated experience in using different welding process e.g. GTAW, MMAW (including Plasma / LPG oxy cutting)
- Proven ability to participate in the training and development of Apprentices and operators as required.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting continuous improvement strategies across all areas of influence and responsibility.
- minimum of 5 years’ experience in the fabrication of large complex engineering, shipbuilding and construction projects.

Conducting work on a CCSM has several challenges, confined space, incompatible operations and difficult working positions all of which need careful attention to detail when conducting tasks.
About you
This role requires an enthusiastic and organised individual. You will have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, work autonomously and use initiative to produce quality technical Fabrication outcomes. You will also need to demonstrate the ability to influence, encourage and work within a team and other supporting department’s to produce successful and accurate outcomes.
This role requires a current National Police Clearance. Eligibility for an Australian Defence Security Clearance and to access protected US Defence Technology may be taken into account in assessing an applicant's suitability for this role.
