About the job

Our people inspire us with their passion, their ideas, their support for each other and their community focus and we have opportunities right now at our Pinjarra Refinery for experienced Production Operators.

We want driven, team-orientated, and motivated people to join us on our journey. Industry experience in a similar role is preferred for this targeted campaign, along with a positive attitude and willingness to learn Alcoa specific systems and processes.

If you value the importance of:

  • A fantastic work/life balance, based locally and returning home every day

  • Working outdoors in a physical and rewarding role

  • Opportunity to build and expand your career

  • Variety - no two days will ever be the same and you will never stop learning

  • A close, diverse team environment where you are supported and encouraged

Alcoa offers all of these.

If the job is unfamiliar, here are a few of the duties and the expectations of a Refinery Production Operator day to day:

  • Staring daily with a toolbox meeting where you discuss safety, priorities for the day and your work tasks are allocated.

  • Working daily with your crew to be accountable for the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of your area and the equipment within it.

  • Collecting process samples for the lab to analyse and cleaning up areas with a high-pressure hose

  • Undertaking area inspections to ensure there are no safety hazards in the area.

  • Performing routines which may include manually lubricating, opening and closing valves with a sledgehammer

  • Buddying up and training other new starters as you become familiar with the process

Throughout all these tasks you will be supported and mentored on the job by experienced operators as you learn the ropes. There is room to grow and take on extra responsibilities as you develop; our crew members are safety representatives, assessors, and fire crew to name a few.

In accordance with our current WA Operations AWU Enterprise Agreement our starting salary in these opportunities is $73,712 plus 14% super working an averaged 36-hour week with various shift patterns available. Shift allowances are applicable for either 10.3-hour or 12-hour (working day and night shift) rosters.

About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Strong commitment to safety

  • A strong team focus where you support and encourage your crew

  • Confidence to ask questions to expand your skills and knowledge

  • Resilience and perseverance

  • Problem solving ability and good initiative

In addition to this, it is desirable but not crucial for you to have:

  • Certificate of lower Secondary Education

  • A good grasp of computer systems in a work environment

  • Previous exposure working in a blue-collar environment, working to routine schedules
