About the job

Can you direct a team to optimise the performance of our smelter? Do you have a passion for excellence and driving results through others within an industrial setting? This could be the perfect role for you!

We are currently seeking a versatile and community focused Smelter Manager to join our senior Australian leadership team. You will be responsible for providing leadership to the Smelter for the manufacture of anodes, molten Aluminium, and the provision of services within the smelter with overall accountability for achieving a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maximise business effectiveness by establishing challenging production objectives, operating and capital budgets and resource allocations for the smelter.

  • Leads and develops an effective management team to meet site objectives.

  • Accountable for establishing and achieving production, safety, environment, efficiency, and cost targets.

  • Promote health, safety and environmental objectives across the plant by ensuring a high focus on safety culture across the smelter and by implementing processes, systems and standards in EHS to meet EHS goals.

  • Support effective people decisions to ensure the right team is in place and to support effective succession planning at all levels of seniority.

  • Set high standards and lead others to be accountable for both performance and values.

  • Coach and mentor high potential individuals to strengthen Alcoa’s talent pool.

  • Lead and develop an effective management team to meet its accountabilities for a safe, low cost and efficient operation.

  • Utilise an Engineering and Technical effort that ensures the latest developments in process and other technologies are available to all areas of the plant.

  • Represent the location and company as required in Government, community and business relationships which ensure an improved and strengthened Alcoa social licence and understanding of the company's objectives and activities.

About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • A tertiary degree in process engineering, chemical engineering, metallurgy or related field is required

  • Post-graduate business or financial qualifications would be highly desirable.

  • Consistent track record in the leadership and management of a large-scale manufacturing/production environments is important.

  • Demonstrable experience of driving improvements and results across production, safety and cost metrics.

  • Extensive technical knowledge of plant/manufacturing processes.

  • Proven leadership experience in EHS systems, including Human Performance.

  • Experience in management of financial P&L and key profitability drivers

  • Sound understanding of commercial markets, demand and capacity

  • Knowledge of supply chain and production control

  • Experience in an industrial relations environment is highly desirable
